Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday presided over the inauguration of the Kaynes Technology semiconductor plant in Sanand, India, following a Micron facility’s official production launch there on Feb. 28, the India Taipei Association (ITA) said.
With a total investment of US$394 million, the Kaynes plant spans approximately 18.6 hectares and has the capacity to produce 6.3 million components per day, the ITA said in a statement.
An industrial bridge connecting Sanand to Silicon Valley has taken shape, with the core product of the Kaynes launch, Intelligent Power Modules, already securing large-scale orders from California, the statement quoted Modi as saying.

Apart from the two facilities beginning production, a strategic Taiwan joint venture has also contributed to the surge in India's semiconductor ecosystem, the ITA said.
The venture between Foxconn (also known as Hon Hai) and HCL Technologies, named India Chip Pvt Ltd, is establishing a US$440 million semiconductor outsourced semiconductor assembly and test facility in Sector 28, along the Yamuna Expressway, it said.
The project aims to produce 20,000 wafers per month, with commercial production expected to begin by next year or in 2028, it said.

Modi also announced the strategic layout of "India Semiconductor Mission 2.0," which aims to address global supply chain uncertainties.
Ten major projects are moving forward across India, with total investment exceeding US$19.1 billion, the ITA said.
Technological sovereignty must be built upon talent and resources, Modi said.
Through the "Chips to Startup" program, top-tier design tools have been provided to 400 universities, and the goal of training 85,000 design professionals is nearing completion, the ITA said.
India has invested US$18 million in mineral recycling and plans to establish a "Rare Earth Corridor" to ensure raw material resilience, it said, adding that the Indian semiconductor market is projected to double in value from US$50 billion to US$100 billion by 2030.
The government would continue to optimize the ease of doing business, transforming India into a global manufacturing hub, Modi said.
"Twenty-first-century India is no longer just a witness to change; we have the determination to be its navigator," he said.
In the formation of India’s semiconductor ecosystem, Taiwan’s technological prowess and industrial experience are playing a decisive role, the ITA said.
Powerchip Semiconductor Manufacturing Corp and Tata Electronics are constructing India’s first wafer fab in Dholera, near Sanand, introducing Taiwan’s industrial standards and training systems, and showcasing a high-level technical alliance, it said.
The launch of "India Semiconductor Mission 2.0" offers immense potential for Taiwan’s small and medium-sized suppliers specializing in critical components, materials and equipment to shift along the supply chain, it said.
The Taiwan supply chain can deepen its global layout, transitioning from individual technology exports to ecosystem-wide co-prosperity, collectively capturing the dividends of this global industrial transformation, ITA said.

HELP DENIED? The US Department of State said that the Cuban leadership refuses to allow the US to provide aid to Cubans, ‘who are in desperate need of assistance’ US Secretary of State Marco Rubio on Wednesday said that Cuba’s leadership must change, as Washington renewed an offer of US$100 million in aid if the communist nation agrees to cooperate. Cuba has been suffering severe economic tumult led by an energy shortage that plunged 65 percent of the country into darkness on Tuesday. Cuba’s leaders have blamed US sanctions, but Rubio, a Cuban American and critic of the government established by Fidel Castro, said the system was to blame, including corruption by the military. “It’s a broken, nonfunctional economy, and it’s impossible to change it. I wish it were different,” he told
