ˇ They got there at seven yesterday morning.
χ They got to there at seven yesterday morning.
Photo: Adobe Stock l 圖片:Adobe Stock
註:there 是副詞,通常前面不該有介詞,也不可用 *I come to here,應說 I come here。但from here/there, near here/there, over there, up here/there 等都可以用。例如:
Let’s go up there.
Do you see that man over there?
Photo: Adobe Stock l 圖片:Adobe Stock
I can’t see it from here.
ˇ Sometimes he goes home on the weekend.
χ Sometimes he goes to home on the weekend.
註:home 用作副詞時,前面不加 to,例如:come home、go home、Is he home yet?(他到家了嗎?)、I saw him on his way home.、He arrived home.
He is at home.、I went to his home.,這裡 home 用作名詞。
ˇ When do you go to work every day?
χ When do you go to work in every day?
註:every day 前面不用 in, 也不用 on。this morning, this afternoon, this evening, next week, next month, next year 等前面也不用 in,但是 in the morning, in the afternoon, in the evening, in the night (at night), in the next week/month/year 等語中都用 in。
ˇ They are working hard to serve their clients.
χ They are working hard to serve for their clients.
This bundle of clothes serves very well as a pillow.
ˇ She married Mr. Chang two years ago.
ˇ She and Mr. Chang married two years ago.
ˇ She and Mr. Chang got married two years ago.
χ She married with Mr. Chang two years ago.
He married very young.
He didn’t marry until he was forty.
He is going to marry Miss Lin.
They were/got married soon after the Civil War.
但 to marry 或 to be married 都不可以接 with:
誤:*She married with Mr. Chang.
She was married with Mr. Chang.
She and Mr. Chang got married.(她和張先生結婚。)
She married (/was married to) Mr. Chang.(她嫁給張先生)
She is married.(她已結了婚。)

Every few years, the World Baseball Classic (WBC) offers sports fans a real World Series. At its finest, as in the shocking upset on Tuesday last week of the US team by Italy, the games generate the kind of electricity fans feel at the FIFA World Cup. That’s exactly how Major League Baseball (MLB), which owns the WBC, wants it. The tournament, first played in 2006, was designed to boost the league’s profile beyond North America and help it become a global game. In most respects, it’s done better than expected. Yet as the WBC grows, the structure, timing and staging of

When people think of Spain, they often picture bullfights and flamenco—but there’s another celebration you shouldn’t miss. Every March, Valencia comes alive with “Las Fallas.” Its origins go back centuries to when carpenters burned wooden scraps they no longer needed to welcome spring as winter ended. Over time, the custom evolved from bonfires to giant street sculptures called fallas. This tradition has since developed into a UNESCO-recognized event that attracts millions of visitors. This festival centers on the ritual burning of falla monuments. Each monument is made up of several ninots: giant puppets that are crafted all year by local artists.
