Mexican post-rock band Childs perform tonight at The Wall (這牆), Taipei’s most prominent venue for indie rock artists, with 2HRs as the opening act. Sunday’s main act is metalcore/post-hardcore outfit One Way Street, accompanied with alternative rock group 70% (柒拾趴), drum and bass/electro house act OVDS and Seeking the Ocean (尋找海洋大樂隊). Berlin punk band Modern Pets arrives tonight at indie rock club Revolver, with pop punks Pa Pun (怕胖團) as the opening act. Tomorrow, it is the release party of garage/pop/psychedelic band Blind Acid Date’s (迷幻的瞎眼約會) debut EP, joined by garage/punk outfit Floaty and Midnight Ping Pong (午夜乒乓). On Sunday, Tokyo’s electronic rock band Saisa teams up with hardcore outfit Inforest of Okinawa, with Taiwan’s grunge rockers Slack Tide and Dronetonics also on the bill. Tonight’s spotlight is on eclectic jazz quintet The Yellow Lighter Dogma at Sappho de Base, a late-night lounge bar that hosts mostly jazz shows. Tomorrow, the venue holds an event to raise money in support of Lynn Miles, a social activist in Taiwan who has taken ill. The lineup include BoPoMoFo, Militant Hippie, Mr Green, Shun Kikuta, DC Rapier and more. The Soup Mothers take the stage on Sunday, while jazz musicians Olivia & the Fat Cats play both old and new material on Wednesday. Stepping off the busy through-road at Yongan Market Station, lights flashing, horns honking, I turn down a small side street and into the warm embrace of my favorite hole-in-the-wall gem, the Hoi An Banh Mi shop (越南會安麵包), red flags and yellow lanterns waving outside. “Little sister, we were wondering where you’ve been, we haven’t seen you in ages!” the owners call out with a smile.
