Asustek Computer Inc (華碩) yesterday said the new ROG Xbox Ally and Ally X, codeveloped with Microsoft Corp, are expected to help drive the company’s revenue growth this quarter, as preorders for the two handheld devices have been strong since Friday last week.
The two ROG Xbox devices are available for preorder in 33 countries, including Taiwan, ahead of their official launch on Oct. 16.
Strong preorders have boosted the company’s confidence in the two new devices, and it expects their sales to be comparable to those of the previous-generation ROG Ally, an Asustek official told the Taipei Times by telephone.

The ROG Ally contributed about NT$5 billion to NT$10 billion (US$164.2 million to US$328.4 million) to Asustek’s quarterly revenue in 2023 after its midyear launch, the company said earlier.
Asustek showcased the two new ROG Xbox devices at the Tokyo Game Show late last month, drawing significant attention, the official said on condition of anonymity.
The two new devices are powered by Advanced Micro Devices Inc chips, with the Ally using a Ryzen Z2 A processor and the Ally X featuring a Ryzen AI Z2 Extreme processor.
Anticipated strong sales of the two devices are also linked to the upcoming launches of several new games by Microsoft, including Hollow Knight: Silksong and Ninja Gaiden 4, the official said.
In August, Asustek co-CEO Samson Hu (胡書賓) said shipments of advanced gaming products, including handheld Xbox devices, would continue to drive the company’s growth in the second half of this year.

Kuwait Petroleum Corp said it was lowering production at its oil fields and refineries after “Iranian threats against safe passage of ships through the Strait of Hormuz.” The war in the Middle East has all but closed Hormuz, the narrow waterway linking the Persian Gulf to the open seas,

The rules are not yet final and could change. They would be the first attempt to regulate the flow of AI chips to US allies and partners since US President Donald Trump’s administration said it rescinded its predecessor’s so-called AI diffusion rules. HEADWINDS: The company said it expects its computer business, as well as consumer electronics and communications segments to see revenue declines due to seasonality Pegatron Corp (和碩) yesterday said it aims to grow its artificial intelligence (AI) server revenue more than 10-fold this year from last year, driven by orders from neocloud solutions clients and large cloud service providers. The electronics manufacturing service provider said AI server revenue growth would be driven primarily by the Nvidia Corp GB300 server platform. Server shipments are expected to increase each quarter this year, with the second half likely to outperform the first half, it said. The AI server market is expected to broaden this year as more inference applications emerge, which would drive demand for system-on-chip, application-specific integrated circuits
