Formosa Regent Taipei (台北晶華酒店) yesterday unveiled a new wedding package, which includes an eight-course meal by a group of Michelin-starred chefs, as part of its goal to raise its average cost per guest by 10 percent this year.
The hotel, operated by Formosa International Hotels Corp (FIHC, 晶華國際酒店集團), has priced the package at NT$5,880 (US$195) per person excluding service charge, with a minimum of 250 guests required.
“More customers have expressed an interest in having cuisine by the hotel’s Michelin-starred chefs for their wedding banquets, which encouraged us to come up with the new wedding package,” FIHC public relations director Ellen Chang (張筠) told a press conference.
Wedding banquets accounted for nearly 60 percent of the hotel’s overall banquet sales last year, Chang said, adding that revenue from the banquet sector accounted for 30 percent to 40 percent of the hotel’s overall food and beverage sales.
The Regent Taipei is the first hotel in the nation to have established a wedding planning and consulting department, as more clients request customized services, she said.
The hotel expects the new wedding package will not only boost its average cost per guest at a wedding banquet to more than the NT$2,100 recorded last year, but also help make it more competitive against the Mandarin Oriental Taipei, which launched operations last month.
Mandarin Oriental Taipei, managed by the Hong Kong-based Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group, has set the price of its top-level wedding package at NT$58,800 per 10-person table, a record for the local hotel industry.
About 200 people have already expressed an interest in having their wedding banquet at the hotel by the end of this year, Mandarin Oriental said.
NOT JUSTIFIED: The bank’s governor said there would only be a rate cut if inflation falls below 1.5% and economic conditions deteriorate, which have not been detected The central bank yesterday kept its key interest rates unchanged for a fifth consecutive quarter, aligning with market expectations, while slightly lowering its inflation outlook amid signs of cooling price pressures. The move came after the US Federal Reserve held rates steady overnight, despite pressure from US President Donald Trump to cut borrowing costs. Central bank board members unanimously voted to maintain the discount rate at 2 percent, the secured loan rate at 2.375 percent and the overnight lending rate at 4.25 percent. “We consider the policy decision appropriate, although it suggests tightening leaning after factoring in slackening inflation and stable GDP growth,”
DIVIDED VIEWS: Although the Fed agreed on holding rates steady, some officials see no rate cuts for this year, while 10 policymakers foresee two or more cuts There are a lot of unknowns about the outlook for the economy and interest rates, but US Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell signaled at least one thing seems certain: Higher prices are coming. Fed policymakers voted unanimously to hold interest rates steady at a range of 4.25 percent to 4.50 percent for a fourth straight meeting on Wednesday, as they await clarity on whether tariffs would leave a one-time or more lasting mark on inflation. Powell said it is still unclear how much of the bill would fall on the shoulders of consumers, but he expects to learn more about tariffs
