Soft-World International Corp (智冠科技), makers of The Romance of the Three Kingdoms (三國演義) computer game, led gains by Taiwanese online game stocks amid speculation summer holiday sales will be boosted by promotions.
Soft-World International advanced 7 percent to NT$169, the most since May 21. Gamania Digital Entertainment Co (遊戲橘子), a developer and host of online interactive titles, climbed by its daily limit of 6.9 percent to NT$54, the most since May 27. Chinese Gamer International Corp (中華網龍) advanced 6.9 percent to NT$339.50.
The benchmark Taiex index added 1.77 percent.
The companies are introducing new games and promotions before the summer holidays to attract students. Soft-World will start selling a title based on the classic Chinese novel The Romance of the Three Kingdoms tomorrow, its Web site said. Summer holidays start at the end of this month for most schools in Taiwan.
“Investors expect more students to play games during the summer holidays, so the companies will make more revenue in the next few months,” said Parker Wu (吳年恭), a fund manager at the Agriculture Bank of Taiwan (台灣農業金庫), who helps oversee the equivalent of US$44 million.
Early this month, Soft-World reported a better-than-expected revenue of NT$2.68 billion (US$81.6 million) for the first five months of this year, or a 20 percent growth year-on-year.
