China is trying to curry favor with neighboring countries by making them think that it is not a "threat" as some nations have claimed, but is a "peaceful rising" country interested in maintaining peace in East Asia, disguising its stated intention of using force to invade Taiwan and continued attempts to block Taiwan in the international arena.
The Chinese government is also promoting the idea of a "harmonious society," which is ironic as the regime has no regard for human rights nor truth, operates a two-handed strategy and continues to play with the law. The government has not only failed to bring corrupt officials to justice, but has helped them oppress the people, bringing up trumped-up charges against innocent people and repeatedly abusing human rights.
China is actively expanding its military force to intimidate Taiwan. As such, we should never forget the importance of enhancing our defense capability to ensure long-term stability.

On April 19, former president Chen Shui-bian (陳水扁) gave a public speech, his first in about 17 years.
