The turnover of the nation's manufacturing industry was NT$3.12 trillion (US$96.59 billion) for the third quarter, up 9.95 percent from the same quarter last year, figures released yesterday by the Ministry of Economic Affairs showed.
Domestic sales rose 7.7 percent to NT$1.54 trillion for the third quarter and direct exports increased 12.25 percent to NT$1.57 trillion.
For the first three quarters of this year, manufacturing turnover totalled NT$8.78 trillion, up 7.82 percent year-on-year, with domestic sales climbing 6.51 percent to NT$4.44 trillion and direct exports jumping 9.19 percent to NT$4.34 trillion.
By sector, turnover in electronic parts and components increased 17.09 percent year-on-year to NT$867.8 billion for the third quarter, with accumulated turnover for the first three quarters of the year being NT$2.27 trillion.
Turnover in chemical materials was up 25.6 percent year-on-year to NT$404 billion for the third quarter, with the accumulated turnover for the first three quarters of the year valued at NT$1.11 trillion.
Turnover in base metals decreased 2.24 percent year-on-year to NT$250.3 billion for the third quarter, while the accumulated turnover for the first three quarters was NT$833.3 billion.
Turnover in mechanical equipment gained 6.77 percent year-on-year to NT$160.8 billion for the third quarter, while the accumulated turnover for the first three quarters was NT$456.6 billion.
Computers, communications and the audio and video electronics industries saw the highest export rate in the third quarter at 86.48 percent of total output.
