It's training day for Jake Hoyt, a cop who has finally attained his dream of working as a narcotics officer. He's being given a crash course in LA street life by 13-year veteran Alonzo Harris, played by Denzel Washington. The plot follows Hawke's character, but the movie belongs entirely to Washington. Hoyt soon discovers that his teacher is corrupt and wanted by the Russian mob. If Harris doesn't give them the cash they demand within 24 hours, he'll be killed.
