Taipei City Government Department of Health inspections of advertising for food, drugs and cosmetics found 3,147 ads failed to meet required standards and 1,010 ads incurred fines totaling NT$82.64 million (US$2.46 million), the department said.
Of the 3,147 advertisements deemed illegal, 1,812 of them were for cosmetics products, 1,084 for food products and 251 for pharmaceutical products, the department said.
The top three products the advertising of which most frequently violated regulations were ONCE Collagen Peptide Powder, which was found to have been represented in 74 ads deemed illegal, followed by Jumelle Lifting and Firming Eye Cream with 53 ads, and a Chinese medicine product using turtle and deer parts, the department said.
As for the types of media advertisers used, the majority of the false ads were TV commercials (42.74 percent), followed by magazine ads (26.6 percent) and Internet ads (13.82 percent), the department said.
The illegal ads violated the Statute for Control of Cosmetic Hygiene (化粧品衛生管理條例), the Health Food Control Act (健康食品管理法), the Act Governing Food Safety and Sanitation (食品安全衛生管理法) and the Pharmaceutical Affairs Act ((藥事法).
Three Taiwanese airlines have prohibited passengers from packing Bluetooth earbuds and their charger cases in checked luggage. EVA Air and Uni Air said that Bluetooth earbuds and charger cases are categorized as portable electronic devices, which should be switched off if they are placed in checked luggage based on international aviation safety regulations. Foreign travelers entering Taiwan on a short layover via Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport are receiving NT$600 gift vouchers from yesterday, the Tourism Administration said, adding that it hopes the incentive would boost tourism consumption at the airport. Temperatures in northern Taiwan are forecast to reach as high as 30°C today, as an ongoing northeasterly seasonal wind system weakens, the Central Weather Administration (CWA) said. CWA forecaster Tseng Chao-cheng (曾昭誠) said yesterday that with the seasonal wind system weakening, warmer easterly winds would boost the temperature today.
