Taiwan-Poland youth exchange agreement signed

Taiwan and Poland have signed an agreement on youth cultural and educational exchanges that paves the way for a working holiday program to be launched next month, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said late on Wednesday.

The ministry initially said the working holiday program would be launched in January, but it later issued another statement to make a correction, saying that the program is expected to open on Dec. 1.

The agreement was signed on Wednesday and the working holiday program is to begin after the two nations finish follow-up administrative procedures, the ministry said.

Further details of the program are to be announced once they are finalized, it added.

Under the terms of the agreement, Taiwan and Poland will each allow an annual quota of 200 citizens aged 18 to 30 to travel and work in each other’s country for up to one year, the ministry said.

“The program is expected to increase mutual understanding among the people from both sides and to promote tourism, cultural and youth exchanges and cooperation,” it said.

Poland is the seventh European nation and the 12th worldwide to have signed a working holiday agreement with Taiwan.
