Prosecutors yesterday charged two brothers with the attempted murder of a cyclist in Taipei County’s Shenkeng Township (深坑) who was shot in the neck by an arrow in June.
Taipei District prosecutors said that the two brothers, surnamed Wei (魏), frequently played with blow pipes and often looked for random victims.
SEEKING A TARGET
On the night of June 22, the two brothers and two friends drove around in a car until they found a target riding his bicycle, prosecutors said.
Prosecutors allege that the older Wei brother was at the wheel, while the younger brother shot two 12cm-long iron arrows. One arrow hit the cyclist in the neck, while another struck him on his back. The cyclist fell in the middle of the road, and was left there, prosecutors said.
SERIOUS OFFENSE
The brothers have not admitted to the charges against them. Prosecutors have therefore requested that the court sentence them to five years in prison because of the seriousness of the offenses and because they allegedly attempted to persuade witnesses to make false statements.
The court also granted a request by prosecutors that the brothers be refused bail.

The Chinese Nationalist Party (KMT) caucus yesterday said it opposes the introduction of migrant workers from India until a mechanism is in place to prevent workers from absconding.
