Former minister of transportation and communications Yeh Kuang-shih submitted his resignation and stepped down from his post over the failure of financial reform proposals for the Taiwan High Speed Railway. On Jan. 13 his former colleagues at the ministry held a send-off for him. In his speech, Yeh playfully said that it was a tearful farewell. Talking about how his parents had problems sleeping after seeing people blackening his name and lambasting him on TV, he became choked up and had to pause, but went on to say that “it is putting aside a heavy burden, and I hope that the hair I have lost over the last few years will now grow back. Afterwards, Yeh rode home on a YouBike. He said, “In my final bit of time here, I would like to promote public transport, and the next thing I would really like to do is take my wife out for a nice meal.”
