A fish pond, together with benches and fences, have been made out of old railway sleepers to form a Hong Kong school's rooftop garden.
Some 58 pine sleepers that were originally imported from Indonesia in 1989, have been made part of the garden at S K H Li Fook Hing secondary school in the Chai Wan district of Hong Kong island, the South China Morning Post reported.
The sleepers, costing up to HK$1,300 (NT$5,541) each, used to be used inside a train maintenance depot operated by the Kowloon-Canton Railway Corporation. Now they use concrete sleepers.
A spokesperson from the railway company said it was the first time the company had given away so many sleepers in one go.
The school's rooftop garden also features flowerpots made from more than 60 wine crates and a solar cell that runs two fountains in the fish pond.(Catherine Thomas, staff writer with dpa)
香港一所學校利用老舊軌枕，打造了一座有魚池、長凳和圍籬的空中花園。
據香港南華早報報導，約有五十八條一九八九年自印尼進口的松木枕，成了香港柴灣區聖公會李福慶中學這座花園的建材。
這些每條造價高達港幣一千三百元（新台幣五千五百四十一元）的木枕，原本是用於九廣鐵路公司所屬的某處維修機廠內，但該維修機廠現已改採水泥軌枕。
九廣鐵路公司一名發言人表示，這是該公司第一次一口氣送出這麼多軌枕。
聖公會李福慶中學的空中花園還利用六十多個紅酒箱製成花盆，並以太陽能電池作為魚池中兩座人造噴泉的動能。
