A man in eastern Malaysia saved about 100 people from falling into a sinkhole when he felt the earth move. He was walking to an outdoor toilet in the dark on the night of April 6.

Renjis Empati immediately ran back to the village where he screamed to alert the others living in a traditional longhouse in Sarawak state on Borneo island.

"I could feel the earth trembling, and I saw the longhouse fall into the sinkhole," the New Straits Times quoted Renjis as saying.

The incident happened just after midnight.

"If not for him, most of us would be dead by now," villager Lada Rentap said. A few people said they lost all their things, including items passed down since long ago.
