A day at the park
“We just have one adventure after another,” Mark sighed as he plopped down onto his sofa. “Maybe we'll finally get a chance to relax a little.”
“What's so bad about adventure?” asked Kathleen. She looked for some cheese in the refrigerator. “In fact, let's have another one right now!”
Kathleen grabbed Mark's hand and pulled him out of the door. “Oh no, where are we going now?” he moaned.
Kathleen dragged Mark over to the park. Some kids were playing on the swings, some elderly people were playing chess or practicing taichi and couples were walking their dogs. There was even a group of elementary school students kicking around a soccer ball.
“Now this is my kind of adventure,” said Mark. “Let's play a game of chess!”
“All right, I'll play a game with you, but you have to promise to play with the soccer ball later,” replied Kathleen.
“That's a deal!” said Mark.
As he played chess, Mark relaxed and looked around at the nearby trees. They were full of chirping, brightly colored birds hopping around from branch to branch. Mark smiled up at them.
All at once, the birds stopped chirping, took flight, and headed directly for Mark ... (Jason Cox, Staff Writer)
