British supermodel Kate Moss is to be at the center of a new exhibition at London's National Portrait Gallery, featuring work by some of the world's leading contemporary fashion photographers.
The gallery director, Sandy Nairne, said that the gallery hopes to create an exhibition that will draw on the field of fashion to show what the gallery believes to be an "amazing, innotative" and very wide ranging new style of creating portraits found amongst fashion's busy magazines.
"By extracting the best of that world, we can see stars transformed through their collaboration with these photographers. Fashion surrounds us. It may sometimes irritate us but it has a place in society that is undeniable."
Other stars to feature in the show include the iconic French actress Catherine Deneuve, US actresses Sharon Stone and Angelina Jolie, plus the latter's current partner Brad Pitt.
Moss first became famous in 1990 where she was styled to look like she had been taking heroin, an illegal drug. The look in which models looked underweight with dark circles around their eyes and pale skin was called "heroin chic." The nine pictures of Moss — charting her transformation from her waif-like "heroin chic" look of 1990 — were taken by photographers Corinne Day, Mario Sorrenti, Paolo Roversi and duo Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott.
Moss, 32, was recently named British model of the year at the British Fashion Awards. But 12 months ago, she made the front pages after being pictured allegedly taking illegal drugs, leading to the loss of a number of lucrative contracts. The Face of Fashion exhibition will run from Feb. 15 to May 28, 2007. (AFP)
