Have you done a lot of studying about the world outside of your own town? Have you been lucky enough to have traveled a lot? If you answered yes to either of those questions, you probably know that people who live in different places can seem very different. In fact, people from foreign places can sometimes even seem very strange.

But if you have studied a lot or traveled, you probably also know that once you understand foreign people and places better, they seem a lot less strange and a lot more fun.

The people of Papua New Guinea understand this idea. In Papua New Guinea, there are a lot of different kinds of people with many different traditions. People have different ways of doing things like dancing and making music, or cooking and eating. They even have different ways of dressing, like the man in this picture.

The people of Papua New Guinea don’t think this is scary or confusing. Every year they have a party in a town called Goroka where people who have different cultures can gather, meet and hopefully understand each other better.
