Math Problems 數學煩惱
One day, Mark and Kathleen were walking home from school when something fell out of Mark’s backpack. He quickly grabbed for it, but not quickly enough. Kathleen had already seen the big, red “F” written at the top of the paper.
“What was that?” she asked, jumping up to try to take it away from him. Mark shoved the paper back into his backpack. “Nothing. Just a stupid math test.”
“Mark, that’s terrible!” said Kathleen. “What happened? I thought you studied really hard for that test. And you always do your homework!”
“You don’t need to yell at me, my teacher already did plently of that. Maybe I’m just dumb at math. Who cares? I’m really good at other stuff. Like art!” Mark answered.
“That’s true,” Kathleen said carefully. She could tell that Mark was upset about the test, and she didn’t want to hurt his feelings.” But you’re really smart in a lot of ways. Maybe you just need a little extra help with math. Tonight when you do your homework, why don’t you give it to me to check? Then, if there are any problems, I can try to explain your mistakes to you.”
“Why do you think I will make mistakes?” asked Mark.
“I don’t think you will. I just said maybe. Do we have a deal?” she asked hopefully.
“Yes, I guess so,” said Mark. (Kayleeen Hartman, Staff writer)
