Sea monster

This not-very-good picture is actually very special. It is the first picture ever taken in the wild of an animal that people used to think was a monster: the giant squid.

The giant squid is at the top of the picture. It is 8m long and has eight arms, plus two scary 6m-long tentacles that it uses to fight other animals. The tentacles are sticky and have teeth and eyes at the ends.

The white line on the left is like a fishing line, and it has a regular squid on the end. The giant squid is going to eat the regular squid.

Giant squids live very deep in the ocean, and only rarely come up to the top. This picture was taken 900m underwater.
