Three Taiwanese died in a traffic accident while traveling in China’s Hunan Province, the Tourism Bureau said yesterday.

The three women were identified as tour group leader Hsieh An-chi (謝安琪) and tourists Cheng Fang-bin (鄭芳彬) and Mei Hsueh-chuan (梅雪娟).

The other 11 tourists in the group suffered minor injuries and are being treated at two hospitals in Changde.

According to the bureau, the eight-day tour to Zhangjiajie and the ancient town in Fenghuang County was arranged by Lion Travel Co (雄獅旅遊).

The tour group left Taiwan on Sunday.

The accident occurred at 11:45am yesterday, when the tour group left Changsha, the capital of Hunan, and was on its way to Zhangjiajie, about 115km away, the bureau said.

The bus was said to have tried to bypass a traffic accident at the 115km milestone on the highway, but overturned and fell off a 5m-deep slope on the side.

Lion Travel Service spokesman Andy Yu (游國珍) said the company was sorry that such a tragedy had occurred.

He said that the company would send senior representatives to support the family members of the victims.
