    LETTERS: Ma for class leader

    Sunday, Mar 16, 2008, Page 8

Could someone please remind Ma that he is running for president of a country and he is not a newly appointed chief executive officer? If it were the latter, perhaps I could forgive him for first wanting to "consult experts," "listen to the people," "evaluate" and "listen to the people more" before giving an opinion on anything important.

Has he not been living here in Taiwan for the last 50 years? Should he not have consulted the experts while formulating his policies as a potential president? How much time does he really need to travel around an island that takes less than 24 hours to circuit to understand what it is that the people want? Doesn't it scare anyone that he is approaching the presidential campaign the same way a high school student might approach running for senior class president?

"Details? Documents? Opinions? Come on ... It's me, the good-looking athlete, you can trust me. I know that you know that someone who was there knows that China agreed to the 1992 consensus. Have you heard something different? Go Wildcats!"
