Correcting the reference

By Paulo Pereira Pinto

With reference to your editorial ("Sex, scandal and accountability," Sept. 9, page 8) your mention of the existence of a "Brazil-esque Ministry of Information" is not correct. Brazil does not have a Ministry of Information. Further, we do not have any press censorship in my country. We have been a democracy since 1985.

I would appreciate if you would publish this note so as to correct any misunderstanding about the political system and freedom of the press in Brazil.

Paulo Pereira Pinto

Director, Brazil Business Center in Taipei

(Editor's note: The reference to Brazil made in the editorial was to the 1985 film by Terry Gilliam, not the country.)
