Electronics vendors promise bargains galore at IT Month

Hoping to boost year-end sales figures, consumer electronics vendors plan to compete for buyers by doling out discounts and launching new products at the annual Information Technology Month (IT Month) gala, which runs at the Taipei World Trade Center halls 1 and 3 from next Saturday through Dec. 7.
Familiar international electronics companies such as Sony Corp, Canon Inc, Samsung Electronics Co, Microsoft Corp, Garmin Ltd, Lenovo Group Ltd (Áp·Q), as well as Taiwan¡¦s Asustek Computer Inc (µØºÓ¹q¸£), Acer Inc (§»ùÖ), Mitac International Corp (¯«¹F), BenQ Corp (©ú°ò) and local telecom operators will be among the companies participating.
Bargain hunters will be able to find limited numbers of promotional EeePC products, such as EeeBox, at 90 percent off regular prices. Shoppers will also be able to find savings from 10 percent to 50 percent off regular prices on notebooks, digital cameras and liquid-crystal-display (LCD) TVs from various vendors.
Sony said it had plans to cut NT$5,000 from the prices of its six lines of premium notebook computers and will be providing special PlayStation packages. Toshiba said that it would offer big savings on various laptop models. Fujitsu will be introducing its new notebook and netbook lines, featuring interchangeable bonus covers that will be free during the exhibition period.
Last year¡¦s IT Month saw more than 2 million visitors nationwide, said the Taipei Computer Association (¥x¥_¥«¹q¸£¤½·|), which organizes the show.
The theme of this years IT Month is ¡§Mobile Technology.¡¨ The exhibition will travel to Taichung on Dec. 12, Kaohsiung on Dec. 26 and Tainan on Jan. 8.
