The number of domestic business entities had reached over 1.17 million as of the end of September, generating a combined turnover of NT$23.7 trillion (US$729.25 billion) during the first nine months of the year, according to statistics released on Saturday by the Directorate General of Budget, Accounting and Statistics (DGBAS).
The turnover posed a year-on-year growth of 4.2 percent, the bulk of which was contributed by the manufacturing sector at more than NT$8.76 trillion, the tallies show.
The largest portion of domestic business entities were wholesale and retail businesses, with 612,374 business units registered as of Sept. 30, which represents a year-on-year decline of 0.7 percent.
Businesses involving cultural, sports and leisure activities fell to 25,819 units, posing a 7.5 percent drop and representing the largest decline in the number of business units compared with other categories, most of which also saw volume drops.
Despite the drops, however, turnover generally increased among the different business categories in the first nine months of the year.
The manufacturing sector recorded a year-on-year turnover growth of 8.3 percent, while the wholesale and retail sector registered a 3.6 percent growth.
The largest growth was in the real estate trading and renting service sector at 15.7 percent, with a combined turnover of NT$574 billion in the nine-month period, the statistics show.
