Taipei to host `Motorcycle Taiwan' show


The first International Motorcycle Industry show to be held in Taiwan "Motorcycle Taiwan" is scheduled for Oct. 27-29 at the Taipei World Trade Center, an official with the quasi-official Taiwan External Trade Development Council (TAITRA, 外貿協會) said yesterday.

A total of 122 manufacturers have registered to participate in the show which will be held under the auspices of TAITRA and the Bureau of Foreign Trade under the Ministry of Economic Affairs, the official said. It is the world's only exhibition that brings together exhibitors from throughout the motorcycle industry.

In addition to local participants, manufacturers from the US, Pakistan and China will also take part in the show, the official said.

Organizers expect there to be a about 300 stands at the event.

According to the official, exhibition items will include assembled motorcycles, engines and parts, motorcycle frames, motorcycle parts and accessories, maintenance equipment, plus equipment for noise and emissions inspection.

The official said the show is aimed at helping local manufacturers explore foreign markets at a time when domestic market demand is reaching saturation point.

The production value of Taiwan's motorcycle industry reached NT$44 billion (US$1.05 billion) last year, up 4.3 percent from the previous year's level, while the sector's export value hit NT$16 billion, with the export ratio topping 40 percent, the official said.
