Relatively cool weather with a chance of rain is today forecast for Taiwan, particularly in the north and east, due to northeasterly winds, the Central Weather Administration (CWA) said.
Temperatures in northern and northeastern Taiwan would be cooler, while the central and southern regions would be slightly warmer during the day, but temperatures there would also drop at night, more sharply in areas south of Hsinchu, the CWA said.
Early today, the lowest temperature recorded in a low-lying area was 12.5°C in Chiayi County’s Jhuci Township (竹崎), while Tainan's Nanxi District (楠西) and Miaoli County’s Gongguan Township (公館) recorded 12.7°C, CWA data showed.

Temperatures of 16°C to 25°C are today forecast for the north and northeast, while temperatures of 15°C to 27°C are expected in central Taiwan, and 18°C to 27°C in the south, the CWA said.
Intermittent rain is expected in eastern Taiwan and areas north of Taoyuan, including Taipei and New Taipei City, while mostly cloudy to sunny skies are forecast for central and southern Taiwan, the CWA said.
Tomorrow and on Saturday, as the seasonal northeasterly winds ease, temperatures in northern and northeastern Taiwan are expected to rise slightly, while cloud systems moving from the south to the north could bring some localized showers to Taiwan’s main island, the CWA said.
By Sunday, another surge of northeasterly winds is expected to bring cooler weather to northern Taiwan, and sporadic rain is expected in the east, the CWA said.
The weather is likely to become drier on Monday, before another band of northeasterly winds arrives on Wednesday, sending the mercury down in northern and northeastern Taiwan, while other regions would experience cool temperatures at night and in the early morning, the CWA said.
