Talk show hostess Dee Hsu (徐熙娣, also known as Little S), who is nominated for Best Host in a Variety Show for Dee Girl’s Talk (小姐不熙娣), is to present the award with her former Kangsi Coming (康熙來了) partner Kevin Tsai (蔡康永).
Kangsi Coming, known for its playfulness, humor and embrace of subcultures, was a critically acclaimed talk show that aired between 2004 and 2016.
Following the unexpected death of her elder sister Barbie Hsu (徐熙媛) earlier this year, Dee Hsu said she decided to attend the ceremony because she was nominated for a show that her sister encouraged her to produce.
“Even I just sit there, I want to remind everyone how much my sister encouraged me and how creative the show was. That is why I am going,” she said.
Lulu’s opening performance
Television host Lulu Huang (黃路梓茵), is to perform a song-and-dance opening number that uses a stage-play format to revisit classic moments from variety shows including Five Lights Awards (五燈獎), Super Sunday (超級星期天), Variety Kaleidoscope (綜藝萬花筒) and Kangsi Coming.
Huang, nominated for Best Host in a Variety Show for The King of Nightmarket (夜市王) and Hot Door Night (綜藝大熱門), is to compete with her newlywed husband Hank Chen (陳漢典), who she met in Kangsi Coming, and her ex-boyfriend A Da (阿達), making their interactions another anticipated highlight.
Memory bomb of classics
A "memory bomb" performance is to feature several nostalgic television characters and stars, including the "Betel Nut Sisters" from Variety Kaleidoscope — Tsao Lan (曹蘭) and Debbie Yao (姚黛瑋) — and "Tung Yueh-hua," a female character in Red Versus White (紅白勝利) played by male actor Tung Chih-cheng (董至成), as well as "Fuzhou Uncle," another character in the same show played by Hsu Hsiao-shun (許效舜), reuniting after a long hiatus.
They are to be joined by former cast members of Everybody Speaks Nonsense (全民大悶鍋), Tai Chih-yuan (邰智源) and Amber An (安心亞), as well as children's television favorites Banana Brother, Strawberry Sister and Tangerine Brother from YOYO Roll Call (YOYO點點名).
Celebrating Taiwan's creative diversity
A performance titled "Diverse Soil Blooms Abundant Flowers" is set to transform the stage into a cultural melting pot with indigenous music representative Yaway Mawring, Hakka singer Hsieh Yu-wei (謝宇威), Hoklo singer Stan Chen (陳孟賢) and the Golden Melody Award-winning band TRASH.
They are to showcase the musical charm of "Tai-Ke" (Taiwanese-Hakka fusion) in four different languages.
K-Pop star makes history
Super Junior leader Park Jeong-su, better known as Leeteuk, is nominated for Best Host in a Lifestyle Program for Chef’s Unexpected Landing: Hakka Kitchen (廚師的迫降:客家廚房), making him the first South Korean celebrity ever nominated for a Golden Bell Award.
Despite not being able to attend the ceremony, he expressed his gratitude for the nomination.
Fans are rallying to see if he breaks another record as the first South Korean winner.
The awards ceremony is to air live tonight at the Taipei Music Center, with the drama series awards following tomorrow.
The ceremony is to be streamed live on SET Metro, Public Television Service and the official Golden Bell Awards YouTube channel.
