Taiwan recorded its third-hottest September since 1951 this year, while Taipei set a record with 19 days last month reaching or exceeding 35°C, according to the Central Weather Administration (CWA).
In a recap of last month's weather published on its Facebook page, the CWA said Taiwan’s average temperature last month, as measured at the 11 main low-elevation weather stations, was 28.8°C.
That average was the third-hottest for September since 1951, with 2017 and 2014 being the first and second, the agency said.

Meanwhile, weather stations at Pengjia Islet, Keelung, Yangmingshan Anbu, Yangmingshan Zhuzihu, Tamsui and Taipei all recorded their highest-ever average temperature for the month, the CWA said.
During last month, Taiwan’s weather stations recorded temperatures above 35°C on an average of 2.3 days, higher than the 30-year average of 1.1 days.
In Taipei, however, temperatures soared above 35°C on 19 days last month, setting a record for the city, the weather agency said.
In terms of precipitation, the national average last month of 272.2 millimeters was 22.6 mm above the 30-year average, while the number of days on which it rained, 10.4, was 2.3 days lower than average, the CWA said.
The CWA’s 11 main low-elevation weather stations are Keelung, Yilan, Taipei, Hsinchu, Taichung, Tainan, Hualien, Chenggong, Taitung, Dawu and Hengchun.
The observatory at Taipei International Airport (Songshan airport) is to reopen tomorrow after nearly two years of renovation, the Civil Aviation Administration said yesterday.
