Police officers at Taipei’s Zhongshan District Precinct issued a statement on Thursday warning women who are alone not to drink beverages offered by strangers or when partying, as they could be laced with sedatives or “date rape” drugs.
It is better to be accompanied by another person, police said, urging women to let other people know where they are headed, have someone as an emergency contact and set a one-button dial for the 110 police hotline on their phone.
The warning came after a recent case of a model who was almost lured into filming a porn video.

The model, a 20-year-old surnamed Lee (李), who uses the name “Le Le” (樂樂) for work with modeling agencies, said she went to a motel on Wednesday for a fashion shoot and had been promised NT$50,000 for a session with a photographer who wanted her to try on different brand-name clothes.
However, Lee said that when she arrived at the motel, she received a text message — which seemed to have been intended for film crew members, but was sent to her instead — saying: “Le Le is here... Don’t tell her that we are shooting a porn video.”
Upon realizing she would be forced to undress and take part in a porn video, Lee said she ran outside and hid in a nearby drug store, where she called the 110 hotline for help. Police officers came shortly after.
Lee said she was scared of what might happen to her and told police she wanted to file a complaint for an investigation.
Police said they later contacted Lee about the case and tried to find out if there were other “fashion shoot scams” that promised pay for a short session, but were actually traps to force female models to undress and engage in sexual acts that would be filmed and sold.
Offenders could be charged with confining a person against their will, intimidation and sexual offenses, the police said.
In other news, Kaohsiung police on Wednesday questioned a model, surnamed Wu (吳), also known on social media as “Ellie Wu,” regarding a porn video she allegedly filmed inside the city’s main public library.
Local news media reported that Wu’s boyfriend allegedly filmed lewd scenes of her walking among bookshelves and that the video contained scenes of people browsing and reading books.
The couple later had sex inside the library’s washroom, they said.
Wu and her boyfriend, a man surnamed Liu (劉), were questioned by police after the video, which was intended for a membership-only porn site, was leaked to adult-themed forums.
Police reminded the public that it is illegal to engage in obscene or sexual acts in public spaces, which is an offense against sexual morality under the Criminal Code.
If convicted, the person could be sentenced to jail for a maximum of one year, and further punishment could be handed down if the video or photo was intended for profit through commercial sale.

A Taiwanese academic yesterday said that Chinese Ambassador to Denmark Wang Xuefeng (王雪峰) disrespected Denmark and Japan when he earlier this year allegedly asked Japan’s embassy to make Taiwan’s representatives leave an event in Copenhagen. The Danish-language Berlingske on Sunday reported the incident in an article with the headline “The emperor’s birthday ended in drama in Copenhagen: More conflict may be on the way between Denmark and China.” It said that on Feb. 26, the Japanese embassy in Denmark held an event for Japanese Emperor Naruhito’s birthday, with about 200 guests in attendance, including representatives from Taiwan. After addressing the Japanese hosts, Wang
One of two tropical depressions that formed offshore this morning could turn into a moderate typhoon by the weekend, the Central Weather Administration (CWA) said today. Tropical Depression No. 21 formed at 8am about 1,850km off the southeast coast, CWA forecaster Lee Meng-hsuan (李孟軒) said. It is expected to move in a northwesterly direction as it continues building momentum, possibly intensifying into Typhoon Mitag this weekend, she added. The radius of the storm is expected to reach almost 200km, she said. It is expected to approach southeast of Taiwan on Monday and pass through the Bashi Channel between Tuesday and Wednesday,
About nine Taiwanese are “disappeared,” detained, or otherwise deprived of freedom of movement in China each month, the Mainland Affairs Council (MAC) said yesterday. Between Jan. 1 last year and Aug. 31 this year, 188 Taiwanese travelers went missing, were detained and interrogated, or had their personal freedom restricted, with some questioned in airports or hotel lobbies, the council said. In a statement ahead of the Mid-Autumn Festival, the council urged people visiting China for any reason to be highly vigilant and aware of the risks. Of the reported cases, 50 people were “disappeared” after entering China, 19 were detained and 119 had
