A magnitude 4.9 earthquake struck off the coast of Hualien County in eastern Taiwan at 9:26am today, the Central Weather Administration (CWA) said.
The epicenter was located in the sea about 11.7km east of Hualien County Hall, at a depth of 17.1km, CWA data showed.

There were no immediate reports of damage.
The earthquake's intensity, which gauges the actual effects of a temblor, was highest in parts of Hualien County, including Hualien City, where it measured 4 on Taiwan's seven-tier intensity scale.
It measured 3 in Yilan County and 2 in Nantou County.
