Japanese footwear brand Onitsuka Tiger today issued a public apology and said it has suspended an employee amid allegations that the staff member discriminated against a Vietnamese customer at its Taipei 101 store.
Posting on the social media platform Threads yesterday, a user said that an employee at the store said that “those shoes are very expensive” when her friend, who is a migrant worker from Vietnam, asked for assistance.
The employee then ignored her until she asked again, to which she replied: "We don't have a size 37."

The post had amassed nearly 26,000 likes and 916 comments as of this afternoon.
Janet Chia (賈永婕), chairwoman of Taipei 101 operator Taipei Financial Center Corp, personally responded to the post, commenting on the importance of providing good customer service and thanking the Threads user for reporting the incident.
Onitsuka Tiger also issued a public apology, stating it had already suspended the worker in question and launched an internal investigation.
If the accusations are found to be true, the company said it would impose strict disciplinary measures with zero tolerance, including dismissal.
The brand strives to maintain professional customer service standards and to treat all customers equally and with respect, it said.
Any behavior violating those principles is not condoned by the brand, it added.
Onitsuka Tiger thanked its consumers for their long-term support and feedback, and said it would continue to strengthen internal management mechanisms and improve employee training to prevent a similar incident from occurring in the future.
