Two wines from the WufongFarmers’ Association Distillery in Taichung won grand gold medals, while three other wines from the same distillery received gold and silver medals, it said.
The five wines were made using locally produced Yiquan fragrant rice, also known as Tainung No. 71 from Wufong District (霧峰), it said.
The rice variety has a unique aroma and is of excellent quality, making it popular as a daily dish and for use in wine production, the agency said.
It is playing a key role in developing a distinctive brewing industry and adding to the diverse applications of the rice, it said.
Three wines from the Puli Farmers’ Association Distillery won gold medals, it said.
The Xinyi Township Farmers’ Association Winery in Nantou County and the Cang Jiu Winery in Yilan County won silver medals for their products, the agency said.
The results demonstrate that rural wineries using local agricultural products such as roses, passionfruit, strawberries and jujubes to produce quality wines are highly regarded and recognized in domestic and international competitions, the statement said.
The makers of the Taiwanese award-winning wines employ different production methods in brewing, reprocessing and distillation, showcasing that domestic wineries use international-level brewing techniques, it said.
The agency would continue to support rural wineries to upgrade their equipment, refine their winemaking techniques and enhance their marketing to boost the quality and reputation of Taiwanese rural wines as part of its strategy to boost the nation’s agricultural development, it said.
