China Airlines Ltd (CAL) is set to launch commercial flights between Kaohsiung and Gimpo, South Korea, on Aug. 26 and between Taoyuan and Kumamoto, Japan, on Sept. 18, as the Taiwanese carrier continues to expand routes in the region.
CAL told reporters during a news conference on Wednesday that not only is the airline expanding to new locations in the two East Asian countries, it would also increase the number of flights on existing routes.
The newly added Gimpo flight — an airport 16km from Seoul — is to operate on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays, CAL said, adding that the new route is in addition to the flights between Kaohsiung and Incheon that are already in operation.

CAL said the Taoyuan-Kumamoto flights would at first operate on Mondays and Fridays, but the frequency might increase.
Additional to this flight route, people also have the option of visiting the island of Kyushu by taking the twice-daily flight to Fukuoka, it said.
The company also said it would operate temporary routes to other new Japanese destinations.
Five charter flights are to operate between Taoyuan and Toyama from Sept. 26 to Oct. 16, four between Taoyuan and Noto Peninsula from Sept. 29 to Oct. 15, as well as 16 flights between Taoyuan and Yamagata from Oct. 5 to Nov. 7, it said.
Following increasing demand for travel after the relaxing of COVID-19 related restrictions, CAL is also set to resume flights between Taipei International Airport (Songshan airport) and Fuzhou, China, on Sept. 22, with flights on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays, the company said.
