Four severe cases of dengue fever have been reported for the first time this year, amid an outbreak in Tainan and a growing cluster in Yunlin County, the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) said on Tuesday.
The current outbreak is centered in Tainan, particularly Rende (仁德) and East (東區) districts, where 163 of the 173 domestically transmitted cases recorded so far this year have been reported, CDC data showed.
A total of six cases have also been reported in Yunlin County’s Gukeng Township (古坑) after two more were confirmed on Tuesday.

CDC Deputy Director-General Philip Lo (羅一鈞) has headed to the affected areas to inspect response measures.
The domestic outbreak has been picking up speed, with 101 cases reported in the past week (92 in Tainan, six in Yunlin County and three in Kaohsiung) out of 173 total domestic cases this year as of Monday, CDC data showed.
Another 53 cases have been imported from abroad, data showed.
Residents are urged to help in eliminating mosquito breeding sites by discarding stagnant water, throwing out unused containers and destroying mosquito eggs, the CDC said.
The Tainan City Government has said that residents could be fined if vector larvae or breeding sites are found on their property.
