The National Communications Commission (NCC) said it would appeal after the Taipei High Administrative Court yesterday overturned its ruling in 2020 rejecting CTi News’ broadcast license renewal application and asked it to review the case again based on the court’s opinions.
However, the court rejected CTi News’ request for compensation from the government and the reinstatement of its broadcast license.
The expenses that CTi News incurred because of the lawsuit would be equally paid by the news channel and the NCC.
“We were surprised about the court’s decision, which is regrettable. We will file an appeal after a further analysis of the court’s opinions,” the NCC said.
The commission said in a statement that it rejected CTi News’ application because the news channel contravened broadcast regulations multiple times and drew a large number of viewer complaints.
The channel failed to safeguard journalistic professionalism due to a malfunctioning internal control system, the commission said.
CTi News in a statement thanked the court for restoring justice for the channel, setting a democratic example, preserving the freedom of the press and upholding constitutional values.
A magnitude 6.4 earthquake struck off the coast of Hualien County in eastern Taiwan at 7pm yesterday, the Central Weather Administration (CWA) said. The first tropical storm of the year in the western North Pacific, Wutip (蝴蝶), has formed over the South China Sea and is expected to move toward Hainan Island off southern China, the Central Weather Administration (CWA) said today.
