The New Year’s Eve show at Taipei 101 is to be organized by the team behind the ceremonies of the Golden Horse Awards, Golden Melody Awards and Golden Bell Awards and can be enjoyed from all around the skyscraper, Taipei 101 announced yesterday.
The theme for this year’s New Year’s Eve event is “Embrace the World, Bling Your Dreams,” the nation’s tallest skyscraper and a top tourist attraction said.
Taipei 101 recruited lighting artist Uno Lai (賴雨農) to direct the show as well as a team consisting of video specialist Jason Ling (凌偉倫) as assistant director, composer and songwriter Chen Chien-chi (陳建騏) in charge of music, laser light specialist Wu Yu-lin (吳玉麟) and firework designer Lee Xiu-chao (李秀超).

The team has participated in the planning of the “three Golden awards,” and has formed a stunning lineup for the event, it said.
The show would incorporate beam lights and lasers for the first time, featuring fireworks, multimedia animations, light shows and original music, Taipei 101 chairman Chang Hsueh-shun (張學舜) told reporters.
Using the newest technology, the fireworks would linger after being fired off and should not create much smoke, he said.
One million people are expected to visit the area near Taipei 101 on New Year’s Eve to enjoy the show that is set to light 16,000 fireworks over 300 seconds, he said.
The firework display is to be led by San Tai Fireworks using high-quality fireworks, the same as those used in illumination displays at the Burj Khalifa in Dubai and at the Eiffel Tower in Paris, he said.
Unlike previous years when the light show could only be viewed from the north side of Taipei 101, a new T-Pad LED light net would allow people to enjoy the display from every side of the building this year, he added.
He thanked the support from government agencies and businesses at home and abroad, including the Tourism Bureau, the Taiwan Stock Exchange, CTBC Financial Holding Co, Chunghwa Telecom Co and Audi, which spent about NT$50 million (US$1.63 million) on the show.
This month, the T-Pad light net has been displaying the year’s countdown along with greetings in various languages to welcome foreign tourists, Taipei 101 said.
Christmas light shows are to be held from Friday next week to Sunday next week, it said, adding that a 150-second show would be put on every 15 minutes from 6:05pm.

Instead of threatening tariffs on Taiwan-made chips, the US should try to reinforce cooperation with Taiwan on semiconductor development to take on challenges from the People’s Republic of China (PRC), a Taiwanese think tank said. The administration of US President Donald Trump has threatened to impose across-the-board import duties of 32 percent on Taiwan-made goods and levy a separate tariff on semiconductors, which Taiwan is hoping to avoid. The Research Institute for Democracy, Society, and Emerging Technology (DSET), a National Science and Technology Council think tank, said that US efforts should focus on containing China’s semiconductor rise rather than impairing Taiwan. “Without
