Taiwan on Sunday were awarded third place at the WBSC U-15 Baseball World Cup in Hermosillo, Mexico, after COVID-19 withdrawals left Japan unable to field a side in the bronze-medal match.
Taiwan secured their second consecutive third-place finish at the WBSC U-15 Baseball World Cup with the 7-0 walkover win.
The bronze medalists had already defeated Japan at this year’s tournament in a 6-4 comeback win in the super round on Thursday last week.

The bronze is Taiwan’s fourth at the WBSC U-15 Baseball World Cup and their second in a row after beating Japan in the previous edition of the tournament in Panama in 2018.
The biennial WBSC U-15 Baseball World Cup was canceled in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Sunday’s bronze is also Taiwan’s 10th medal of any kind at the U-15 Baseball World Cup, having won one gold and five silvers, in addition to four bronze medals.
This year’s World Cup was won by the US, who defeated Cuba in the final 4-3 to win a second consecutive title.
