Taiwanese MLB outfielder Lin Che-hsuan has joined the Houston Astros from the Boston Red Sox, the Astros announced on their Web site on Friday, where he will join compatriot Lo Chia-jen.
The Red Sox removed Lin from the team’s 40-man roster and freed up a spot for another transaction. Based on MLB rules, the club had 10 days to decide what to do with Lin, who was designated for assignment.
The Astros picked a right-handed pitcher for assignment so that Lin, 24, could fill the spot on their 40-man roster.
Lin, who spent six years with the Red Sox, was pulled from minor league action several times to play in the major league this year when the team’s outfielders were injured. He contributed three for 12 over his nine outings.
Lo came back from surgery in June and has been recovering well in the Astros’ minor league affiliates.

God gave me fast feet for a reason. And I’m here to showcase my talent,” Kerley said. Kerley last September became the first US competitor and first track

At ballparks all across the US, groups consisting of mostly young men are joining in on the “Tarps Off” trend that is loud, goofy, infectious and new to the baseball world. Joining in on the fun is simple: Go to the section where the party is happening, take off your shirt and start twirling it above your head. Soccer-like chants or singing usually follow — injecting a jolt of energy for a sport that is occasionally chided for its lack of energy inside the stadium. After getting its start in St Louis, Missouri, on
