For the sustainable development of fishery resources, the Keelung Fisheries Association held an ocean cleanup activity on Sept. 6 in Chaojing Park and Wanghaisiang. More than 200 volunteers, including 120 divers, and 11 fishing boats took part in the campaign. The divers spent more than four hours cleaning up a big load of trash, such as fishing nets, plastic bottles and wooden boards.
Keelung Fisheries Association director-general Chen Wen-chin said that, in order to make offshore waters cleaner and keep marine resources sustainable, the Wanghaisiang bay area was chosen this year for the ocean cleanup campaign, whose purpose is to clean up marine trash so that squid and other marine life can reproduce and provide an endless supply of fishery resources. There were more volunteers and fishers participating in this year’s activity than in previous years’ beach cleanup campaigns, and Chen was grateful for the participants’ enthusiastic contributions.
Chen said the activity was organized by the Keelung Fisheries Association, Keelung City’s Jhongjheng District Office and the National Museum of Marine Science and Technology, and co-organized by the Keelung Rescue Association, Keelung City’s Bureau of Environmental Protection, the Taiwan Environmental Information Center and Lions Clubs International. The campaign organizers urge the public to cherish marine resources and do whatever they can to take care of the environment.

為了漁業資源永續發展，基隆區漁會上週日於潮境公園、望海巷舉辦「基隆市希望海灣親海淨海活動」，包括一百廿名潛水人員在內共二百多位志工淨海，另有十一艘漁船主動響應。潛水人員花了四個多小時，清出魚網、寶特瓶、木板等大批垃圾。
基隆區漁會總幹事陳文欽表示，為了讓沿近海域更加潔淨，兼具海洋資源保育，今年選定「望海巷海灣」舉辦海底淨海活動，清理海底垃圾以利軟絲及其他海洋生物繁衍下一代，使漁業資源綿延不絕。參與的志工、漁民，也比往年淨灘活動人數更多，很感謝大家熱烈響應。
