An American woman recognized by the Guinness Book of World Records as the oldest person in the world has died at the age of 116.
Elizabeth Bolden died Monday at a nursing home in Memphis, Mississippi, said one of her grandsons, James Bolden.
Elizabeth Bolden was born on August 15, 1890, the daughter of freed slaves, and had seven children, 40 grandchildren, 75 great-grandchildren, 150 great-great-grandchildren, 220 great-great-great grandchildren and 75 great-great-great-great grandchildren.

The Guiness Book of World Records recognized her as the world's oldest person last August. Elizabeth became the record holder after Maria Esther de Capovilla of Ecuador died just three weeks short of her 117th birthday.
The Gerontology Research Group in Los Angeles, which tracks the ages of the world's oldest people, said the title of the oldest living person now goes to Puerto Rico's Emiliano Mercado del Toro, 115.
