Have you ever been on a really fast train? This is a picture of one of Taiwan's new high speed trains.
Right now it takes four hours to get from Taipei to Kaohsiung. That's the same amount of time you spend in classes in the morning. When the new trains start running it will only take one and a half hours. That's just a little longer than it takes to eat lunch and have a nap!
The train can travel at 300km an hour. That's pretty fast! Because the train passes through a lot of countryside there will be special crossings for animals.

There are a lot of different types of high speed trains in the world. The ones in Taiwan are like the Shinkansen trains in Japan. They have been specially made for Taiwan because Taiwan is hotter than Japan. Also the countryside in Taiwan is different so the trains have to be different from the Japenese trains. The Taiwanese trains can also move faster than the Japanese ones which only go at 285km an hour. Way to go Taiwan! (CATHERINE THOMAS, STAFF WRITER)

全世界的高速鐵路種類繁多。台灣高鐵與日本新幹線系出同源。但由於台灣氣候較日本炎熱，這些車廂是特別為台灣量身訂做的。此外，台灣鄉間與日本不同，所以車廂也與日本不同。台灣高鐵也比每小時跑兩百八十五公里的日本高鐵快。該是來趟台灣之行囉！
