Chugai Pharma Taiwan Ltd (台灣中外製藥) on Friday was honored at the prestigious Asia Responsible Enterprise Awards (AREA), receiving accolades in the Green Leadership and Social Empowerment categories.
It was the fourth consecutive year the company has received international recognition at AREA, underscoring its long-term commitment and tangible achievements in environmental sustainability and social responsibility.
This year’s AREA ceremony was held in Bangkok, Thailand, and organized by the non-governmental organization Enterprise Asia. The awards attracted more than 350 entries from 19 countries across Asia, with only 81 projects ultimately selected — an acceptance rate of just 23 percent.

Chugai Pharma Taiwan’s repeated success highlights its consistent dedication to excellence in environmental, social and governance (ESG) initiatives.
Continuing to expand its ESG impact this year, Chugai Pharma Taiwan partnered with Taiwanese sustainable brand Blueseeds to adopt and support contract farming of herb fields. The Chugai team traveled to Taitung to attend the adoption ceremony, engaged in meaningful dialogue with local contract farmers and planted lavender seedlings by hand — a symbolic gesture of the company’s promise to protect the environment.
In addition, Chugai Pharma Taiwan integrated an essential oil DIY event into its patient support program, empowering people to create their own essential oils to ease stress, and promote physical and mental well-being.
The essential oils, derived from naturally cultivated herbs, were also packaged into gift sets and shared with employees and business partners, promoting a healthy lifestyle and eco-friendly values. The initiative not only supports sustainable agriculture, but also creates diversified employment opportunities for visually impaired perfumers and small-scale local farmers.
Receiving AREA honors for four consecutive years affirms Chugai Pharma Taiwan’s unwavering commitment to ESG values. The company reiterated its mission to address unmet medical needs through innovative medicines, improving access to treatment, and enhancing public health and well-being.
“Our commitment has always been to improve patients’ quality of life and help brighten their lives,” Chugai Pharma Taiwan said. “We will continue to strengthen our ESG strategy and leverage our corporate influence to create lasting, positive change — moving together toward a more sustainable future.”

The extraction of Chinese workers from the factory of Yuzhan Technology (India) Private Ltd, a Hon Hai component unit, in southern Tamil Nadu state, is the second such move in a few months. The company has started flying in Taiwanese engineers to replace staff leaving, people familiar with the matter said, asking not to be named, as the

SinoPac Financial Holdings Co (永豐金控) is weighing whether to add a life insurance business to its portfolio, but would tread cautiously after completing three acquisitions in quick succession, president Stanley Chu (朱士廷) said yesterday. “We are carefully considering whether life insurance should play a role in SinoPac’s business map,” Chu told reporters ahead of an earnings conference. “Our priority is to ensure the success of the deals we have already made, even though we are tracking some possible targets.” Local media have reported that Mercuries Life Insurance Co (三商美邦人壽), which is seeking buyers amid financial strains, has invited three financial
CAUTION: Right now, artificial intelligence runs on faith, not productivity and eventually, the risk of a bubble will emerge,’ TIER economist Gordon Sun said Taiwanese manufacturers turned more optimistic last month, ending a five-month streak of declining sentiment as concerns over US tariffs, currency volatility and China’s overcapacity began to ease, the Taiwan Institute of Economic Research (TIER) said yesterday. The manufacturing business confidence index rose 1.17 points from June to 86.8, its first rebound since February. TIER economist Gordon Sun (孫明德) attributed the uptick to fading trade uncertainties, a steadier New Taiwan dollar and reduced competitive pressure from Chinese producers. Taiwan’s semiconductor industry is unlikely to face significant damage from Washington’s ongoing probe into semiconductors, given the US’ reliance on Taiwanese chips to power artificial
