Taiwan and the Philippines will enhance bilateral technological exchanges as part of a plan finalized during the second technology ministers’ meeting between the two in Manila on Wednesday.
Taiwan will assist the Philippines with research in areas such as bio-agriculture and coral reef inspection and strengthen academic and science exchanges.
Taipei will also help Manila set up automatic weather stations and acquire weather radar systems. The two countries will share typhoon and rainfall data.
National Science Council Minister Lee Lou-chuang (李羅權) said the cooperation was very meaningful given that about one-third of the typhoons each year that hit Taiwan are formed in the Philippines’ territory.
Singapore-based ride-hailing and delivery giant Grab Holdings Ltd has applied for regulatory approval to acquire the Taiwan operations of Germany-based Delivery Hero SE's Foodpanda in a deal valued at about US$600 million. Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co (TSMC, 台積電) yesterday received government approval to deploy its advanced 3-nanometer (3nm) process at its second fab currently under construction in Japan, the Ministry of Economic Affairs said in a news release.
