    Survey reveals steep US gas price rise

    A survey says the US national average price for regular gasoline rose nearly US$0.16 in the last two weeks.

    The average price of self-serve regular gasoline on Friday was US$3.47 a gallon (3.8 liters), while mid-grade was at US$3.59 and premium was US$3.70. That’s all according to the Lundberg Survey of 7,000 stations nationwide released on Sunday.

    Regular is up US$0.60 from a year ago.

    The national average price for a gallon of diesel is US$4.21. That’s US$1.24 more than a year ago.

    Of the cities surveyed, the cheapest price is in Newark, New Jersey, where a gallon of regular costs US$3.21, on average.

    The highest was in San Francisco at US$3.88.
