Citizen 1985 files suit over finances against Liulin Wei

By Jason Pan  /  Staff reporter

Activist organization Citizen 1985 has announced a lawsuit against physician Liulin Wei (柳林瑋) over a financial dispute.

Representatives of Citizen 1985 went to the Taipei District Prosecutors’ Office yesterday to lodge the suit against Liulin, saying the former National Taiwan University Hospital physician misappropriated funds.

They alleged that Liulin exploited a rally in October 2013 organized by Citizen 1985, which ran up a deficit of NT$300,000.

The organization accused Liulin of taking advantage of the event’s deficit to appeal for donations, but used the money for private affairs.

Liulin said on Facebook that the allegations are not true and he would be vindicated over the coming days.

Officials at the prosecutors’ office said last night that an investigation would be conducted into possible fraud and misappropriation of funds.

Liulin was among 39 founders of Citizen 1985 in 2013. The group was initiated due to discontent over a perceived coverup over the death of army corporal Hung Chung-chiu (洪仲丘), who died while under detention and after alleged mistreatment by officers at an army base in Hsinchu County.

Liulin, who resigned his positions with Citizen 1985, as well as from Internet media outlet Watchout, is reportedly embroiled in other litigation.
