Former premier Liu Chao-shiuan (劉兆玄) is likely to attend the World Expo in Shanghai next month.
Minister of the Interior Jiang Yi-huah (江宜樺) confirmed yesterday that Liu filed a request at the National Immigration Agency on March 26 to attend an arts event in China under the invitation of an art institution in Beijng.
Jiang said they received a telephone call from Liu’s office yesterday, informing them Liu would withdraw the original application and apply for a new one because he would attend the World Expo from May 11 to May 16. Jiang said he was invited by Taiwan External Trade Development Council chairman Wang Chih-kang (王志剛) to attend the event.
Once the ministry receives a response from the Executive Yuan, an ad hoc committee will review the application, Jiang said.
