The Taipei City Police Department’s traffic division said it would add more traffic police officers to clamp down on traffic and parking violations at major intersections starting tomorrow as the city is expecting heavy traffic leading up to and during the Lunar New Year holiday.
The traffic police force will be dispatched to nine major roads, including Zhongxiao E and W roads, Nanking E and W roads, Keelung Road, Minquan E and W roads, Xinyi Road, Renai Road, Civic Boulevard, Zhongshan N Road and Dunhua N and S roads, division director Fang Yang-ning (方仰寧) said.
The division will also tighten measures in the city’s seven major intersections between Huandong Boulevard and Jiujong Road, Shida Road and Shuiyuan Road, Songlong Road and Yongji Road, Zhonghua Road and Aiguo W Road, Tiding Boulevard and Gangqi Road, Zhongshan N Road and Tongho Street, and Jianguo N Road and Changan E Road, he said.
Fang said the division would ticket traffic violators and focus its efforts on clamping down on illegal parking on major roads and at intersections.
“Traffic flows are always heavier right before the Lunar New Year holiday, so we urge the public to follow traffic rules and work with us to keep traffic flowing smoothly,” he said.
Fang said the division would also enhance traffic control measures around big department stores, the Lunar New Year shopping plaza on Dihua Street, major flower markets, fish markets and major temples such as Longshan Temple during the holiday.
He called on Taipei residents who plan to leave the city next week to take public transportation to the Taipei Railway Station and Taipei Bus Station, as the area will be congested.

Under the new act, the day before Lunar New Year’s Eve is also a national holiday, and Labor Day would no longer be limited
