Taiwan Goal president Wu Nai-jen (§d¤D¤¯) yesterday announced that he may convene a shareholder meeting in the coming days to discuss the disbandment of the arms company.
In his statement issued yesterday, Wu said incessant and inaccurate reports by the media and the pan-blue camp had hurt the company's ability to invigorate and improve the domestic arms industry as its mission stipulates.
False reports about the firm, the statement said, have unraveled the efforts taken to keep Taiwan Goal a private corporation, adding that the company would now be ineffective.
He said he would call a shareholder meeting soon to discuss dissolving the company.
The statement stressed that the original purpose of establishing the company was to assess the shortfalls of the nation's defense capabilities.
Founded on the goals of safeguarding national interests and security, the company hoped to improve the domestic arms industry by collaborating with the Ministry of Defense, the Ministry of Economic Affairs and other government agencies, the statement said.
To ensure flexibility, he said, Taiwan Goal was set up as a private corporation to better cope with the diplomatic challenges the nation faces in the world.
The statement said that breaking up Taiwan Goal would be a step in the wrong direction in light of the nation's aging military equipment and its international isolation.
It also said the legislature has a duty to pass resolutions and regulations with the nation's welfare in mind.
