The Central Election Commission yesterday publicized the 12th presidential and vice presidential candidates' assets declaration reports.
According to the information, Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) presidential candidate Frank Hsieh (謝長廷) and his wife Yu Fang-chih (游芳枝) have total deposits of approximately NT$12.35 million (US$385,000), with foreign currency deposits of about NT$1.04 million, and hold a total of 39,543 shares of MediaTek Inc stocks.
In terms of real estate, Hsieh owns houses and land in Taipei City and the Sanming District in Kaohsiung City while his wife owns properties in Taipei County and Kaohsiung City, the CEC information showed.

His wife has NT$4.5 million in her savings account at the Mega International Commercial Bank and NT$2.6 million in her Taipei Fubon Commercial Bank's savings account.
Compared with Hsieh's assets declaration in 2005 when he was serving as premier, there is an increase of NT$7,727,052, up from NT$4,628,446, for his and his wife's total deposits.
The CEC information showed that Chinese Nationalist Party (KMT) presidential candidate Ma Ying-jeou (馬英九) and his wife Chow Mei-ching (周美青) have total deposits of approximately NT$52.37 million.
They also hold shares of Mega Financial Holding Co, China Steel Corp and Fubon Financial Holding Co, stocks with securities of the ING Taiwan Dynamic Asset Allocation Funds and Mega's overseas funds.
In addition, Ma and his running mate Vincent Siew's (蕭萬長) campaign funds totaled approximately NT$50 million.
The assets declaration reports showed that Ma and his wife also own a total of three houses in Taipei City in addition to their savings, which remains the same as his assets declaration report in 2005 when he served as Taipei major.
However, there is a decrease of about NT$14 million, down from NT$66.48 million in the couple's total deposits compared with their last declaration.
